 the highest resolution version available.This picture can be described with one word: WOW. The sheer amount of colors in the sky is amazing. The unusual pattern is made by gravity waves in the atmosphere, and these are waves made up of alternating air pressure that changes after the air thins. The color is made not due to an aurora, but chemoluminescence, which is the production of light do to chemical reactions.
